Heat Pump Operation :

Heat pumps are systems which are used for heating water very efficiently.  Heat pumps utilise the ambient air temperature in its immediate surroundings which is freely available energy.    This freely available energy is absorbed through the refrigerant gas passing through the evaporator.  The warmed refrigerant gas is now compressed by the heat pump compressor.  The heat developed by the compression of refrigerant gas and the heat generated by the compressor is then transmitted into the refrigerant gas and pumped through a gas / water heat exchanger.  The energy in the refrigerant is now absorbed by the water in the heat exchanger and circulated through the hot water circuit to the geyser.  The gas which has been condensed through the heat exchanger has lost its heat and is pumped through the evaporator coil where it once again absorbs free energy.
